Frequently Asked Questions

What styles of music do you record?
I can record
Pop, Rock, Alternative, Acoustic, Electronica, Soul, Funk and any combination of the above! We don't specialise in R'n'B, Hip Hop, Dance or House etc.

When is the studio open?
The studio is open Tuesday to Saturday all year round from 10am to 6pm. The studio is closed on Sunday and Monday. The studio is NOT open in the evenings - sorry.

Where is the studio?
The studio is in East Barnet near Cockfosters & Southgate tube stations and only 10 minutes from junction 24 of the M25. The full address will be be provided when your booking is confirmed.

Is the studio suitable for bands?
No - the studio is for solo artists only. If you want Joe Lonsdale to record your band we can arrange to record elsewhere according to your budget and bring the tracks back to the studio here to finish, mix and master.

How long does it take to record a song?
You should allow at least a full 8 hour day for a typical pop/rock track with drums, bass, vocals etc - you may want to allow 2 days if it requires lots of instruments, lots of vocal tuning, requires lot's of work to get your song ready to record (melody, lyrics etc) or will be released by a label and needs to go that extra mile.

Can I bring my own backing tracks?
Yes. We'll record, fix, edit and add your vocals before mixing it and burning it to CD for you. If you want to do a karaoke thing that's fine (although we don't offer 'karaoke parties').  We cannot provide backing tracks either, but these are very cheaply available for you to download from websites such as
www.ameritz.co.uk or www.karaoke-version.co.uk.

Are there any hidden extras money-wise?
No. You can take your tracks away with you same day on a mixed (time allowing) and mastered CD. Obviously any extra work beyond your paid for session will incurr further charges of £22.50 per hour.

Can you help me finish my song?
Yes. If your lyrics are incomplete or you need a but of help with the melody I can help bash it into shape - I regularly co-write with artists and will always do my best to make sure your song is in the best shape possible before recording starts.

Do you need to sign a contract or anything?
Generally no, but if I significantly contribute to your songs melody or lyrics I will require you to sign a form saying so!

What does the studio look like?
It's a tiny, but comfortable studio - a big sofa, lot's of wood, a few microphones, loads of guitars and othermusic stuff... there's not too much room, but plently for two or three people to comfortably spend the day working. Don't expect acres of gleaming glass and enormous mixing desks - judge the studio on the quality of it's records! You can see the studio on the video interview:  www.recordproduction.com.

Can I bring my friends/family to watch?
I'm afraid not - if you are not directly involved in the process it is very boring and it is quite distracting to have someone sitting around doing nothing all day! However, if you really do need someone there (because you are under 16, need a chaperone, need moral support or just want someone to make you tea) let me know and we may be able to come to an arrangement...
